FOOD ʳÎï
I was planning to give some tips about where to eat for specific food, but now that I sleep during the day and get up at night, it's difficult to go and see the restaurants. (Please see here for list of places you can go for a bite)
Anyway, here are some of the food that you can find in Mauritius. I will post more pictures later, when I do go out.
Gato pima (Chilli cakes)
Eaten on its own or with bread and butter, and of course
drinking (Mauritian) tea.
Some various cakes in the picture below. Chilli cakes (gato pima), samoussas, potato cake (gato patate), stuffed fried chilli (pima farci), aubergine cake (gato bringelles). So oily, yet so good. Hehe.

Dholl purri (aka dhal puri), Roti and Farata (Kind of like Indian pancakes, almost similar, most visible difference is thickness of 'pancake')

These are in demand during lunch time and weekends.
Vindaye ourite (my personal favourite, I am salivating as I look at the pictures)
Octopus vindaye
Salade ourite

Octopus salad
Briyani (there's a resto in Sir William Newton St, Port Louis, that is very famous for this Indian/Muslim dish)
Lentils soup (a Mauritian favourite)
French pastries
Pate
Feuillete
Pain au chocolat (chocolate bread, slightly crushed here)
Dishes from Chinese restaurants
Home cooking
Bol devire (Bowl turned upside down)
Family dinner

Barbecue
Meat balls (niouk nian)

Food pictures I want to put here include alouda, halim, gato baarfi, gato coco,
etc..

food as well as Madeleine Philippe's Recipes
